Germany is drafting a law to give the government new powers to nationalise banks.
A government spokesman said the cabinet aimed to agree the draft next Wednesday.
The draft would extend a bank rescue law passed last year, giving the government powers to seize control of financial institutions whose failure would pose a systemic risk.
