Air New Zealand's half year profit is expected to halve due to rises in the price of jet fuel last year.

The airline is due to report its profit for the six months to the end of December on Thursday.

First NZ Capital research analyst Jason Familton expects the half year profit to halve to $80 million, down from $159 the same time last year.

An interim dividend of 2.5 cents per share is expected, half the amount paid in the first half last year.
