Fall tipped in Contact Energy half year profit

Half year profit for Contact Energy is expected to be down due to a lack of rain in the South Island hydro lakes and rising gas costs.

The electricity generator and retailer is due to report its result on Tuesday for the six months to the end of December.

Forsyth Barr equity analyst Andrew Harvey-Green predicts Contact made $103 million - a decrease of 14% on last year's corresponding profit of $120 million.

Contact Energy also lost 3.5% of its customers in the three months following its annual meeting last year, when it increased its fee pool for directors and increased prices.
