Guest nights in short-term commercial accommodation were 3% lower in January than the same month last year.
Statistics New Zealand says the drop was mainly due to a decrease of 7% in international guest nights.
Domestic guest nights were down 1% over the same period.
Short-term commercial accomodation numbers have been decreasing since October 2007.
