Sky City Entertainment says its revenue in the first two months of 2009 is tracking ahead of last year.

The casino operator says its Australian operations in Adelaide and Darwin were strong in January and February, with revenue up 14% in Australian-dollar terms, or 20% once converted into New Zealand dollars.

Revenue has been flat in New Zealand, although gaming machine revenue rose about 3%.

Sky City, which owns or has an interest in five casinos in New Zealand and two in Australia, says while the future outlook depends on how the two economies perform, the growth is encouraging.

The company reported an underlying net profit of $55.6 million in the six months to December, down slightly on a year earlier.
