Leading food research and development organisations have announced plans to market New Zealand food research expertise to the world.
Partners in the initiative, called Food Innovation New Zealand, include Massey University, Fonterra, AgResearch and Crop and Food
They signed a memorandum of understanding at the university on Tuesday.
Massey Vice-Chancellor Steve Maharey says the aim is to entice more multinational food production companies to conduct their research in New Zealand.
Mr Maharey says Food Innovation New Zealand's goal is to be recognised as a world leader in food science.
Andrew West, chief executive of AgResearch, which carries out research for the meat, dairy and wool industries, says the initiative brings together an ideal combination of skills and should create huge business opportunities.
