Wealthy New Zealand investors are gloomy about the economy's prospects in the second quarter, and appear to be among the most conservative in the Asia-Pacific region.

ING's Investor Dashboard survey indicates that despite investor confidence improving 8% in the first quarter, it remains firmly pessimistic, with a reading of 67 out of 200.

Of the local investors surveyed, 48% believe the economy will deteriorate further this year.
