Orcon takes on Telecom in small business sector

Orcon is taking on Telecom in the small business sector, by introducing packages which it says represent the first time there's been competition in the market.

The State-owned teleco is launching packages targeted at companies with three or four employees, offering free local calls and lower prices for extra phone lines.

Chief executive Scott Bartlett says local loop unbundling has allowed the company to offer its own services, rather than simply on-selling Telecom's.

The extra phone line deal is currently available only in Auckland and central Wellington, where Orcon has unbundled exchanges.
