Sharemarket ends down 20 points

The New Zealand sharemarket closed in the red on Friday, with the NZX 50 index down 20 points to 2719 on turnover of $75 million.

Telecom closed down 19c to $2.63, Contact Energy gained 1c to $5.71 and Fletcher Building gained 4c to $6.74. Vector lost 3c to $2.13 while Steel and Tube gained 9c to $2.95.

The dollar was trading at 56.64 US cents, 77.91 Australian cents, 38.25 pence, 55.96 yen and 0.4265 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 56.1.
