New Zealand market up five points

The NZX 50 index closed up five points to 2822 on Tuesday on turnover of $49.1 million.

Telecom was up 5 cents to $2.61, Fletcher Building was down 7c to $6.82, Contact Energy was down 4c to $5.63 and Infratil was up 2c to $1.76.

The dollar was buying 61.79 US cents, 78.46 Australian cents, 39.60 pence, 60.60 yen and 0.4455 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 59.09.

Across the Tasman, weaker commodity prices and resource stocks pulled the Australian sharemarket down almost 1%, offsetting gains among financial stocks.

The S&P/ASX200 finished down 36.3 points to 3934.9, while the All Ordinaries eased 35.4 points to 3933.6.
