New Zealand market up seven points

The NZX 50 index closed up seven points to 2829 on turnover of $64.2 million on Wednesday.

Telecom was up 1 cent to $2.62, Fletcher Building was up 7c to $6.89, Contact Energy was up 3c to $5.66 and Infratil was down 1c to $1.75.

The dollar was buying 63.10 US cents, 78.30 Australian cents, 38.67 pence, 61.56 yen and 0.4479 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 59.65.

Across the Tasman, the Australian sharemarket closed higher, boosted by the big miners and banks, and positive data on consumer confidence and housing finance.

The S&P/ASX200 index rose 89.5 points, or 2.27%, to 4024.4, while the All Ordinaries index was up 82.7 points, or 2.1%, to 4016.3.
