Housing prices rise

5:46 am on 10 July 2009

The Real Estate Institute says house prices rose slightly but fewer properties were sold in June, suggesting the market is levelling out after a sharp downturn.

Sales totalled 6,040 in the month - down 4% on May, but 40% higher than last year.

The median house price was $340,000, up 0.7% from May.

ASB economist Jane Turner says the figures are in line with expectations and the market appears to be holding steady.
