Greater investigation powers for ACCC

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has been given greater powers to investigate and punish cartel activity.

Serious cartel conduct soon will be viewed as criminal and will carry prison terms of up to 10 years and fines of $A10 million or more.

ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel says exposing executives to jail time will deter them from making dodgy business deals.
