Minor decrease in Auckland house prices

Auckland's largest real estate firm says the housing market is showing signs of stabilising, with only a minor decrease in sales prices in July compared with the previous month.

Barfoot and Thompson says average house prices in the city fell 0.4% to $507,384 in July.

At the same time, 23.8% more houses were sold than in June.

Managing director Peter Thompson says the market is holding onto the gains made in prices and sales volumes in previous months.

He says he is not predicting a strong recovery but expects the housing market to remain steady over coming months.

Quotable Value is due to release its latest house price index on Monday.
