Commission does about-turn on mobile roaming prices

8:51 am on 29 August 2009

The Commerce Commission has done an about-turn and won't investigate whether it should set prices for national mobile roaming.

The commission says there have been new developments in the market, including Telecom's willingness to offer roaming on its new XT network to any future new entrant.

It also says Vodafone and 2degrees may review pricing later in the year. That will be part of the commission's assessment of whether to start an investigation into roaming.

The commission says it will reconsider the matter after completing an investigation of mobile termination, for which it expects to make a recommendation by mid December.
