Todd Energy is starting more work in the Mangahewa field as part of a $100 million programme to look for more oil and gas.
Managing director Richard Tweedie says if the extra drilling in Mengahewa is successful, it will aid a planned LPG extraction plant and additional power generation.
Todd Energy is also going to drill another well in the Kapuni field next month.
