The New Zealand share market was 7 points higher, or 0.21%, to 3098 at the close of trade on Friday. Turnover was $83 million.
Top stocks were mixed. Telecom was down 1 cent to $7.86, Contact lost 3c to $6.15 while Fletcher Building gained 17c to $7.86. Auckland Airport fell 2c to $1.77.
Japanese share prices closed down 0.27%, as investors refrained from buying ahead of key US jobs data and a weekend meeting of world finance chiefs, dealers said.
The benchmark Nikkei-225 index dropped 27.53 points to 10,187.11. The broader Topix index of all first section shares slipped 7.03 points, or 0.75%, to 935.74, AFP reports.
