Babcock & Brown Infrastructure is in talks with an investor to take a cornerstone holding.

The debt-laden Australian asset manager is trying to raise cash to pay down around $A300 million of debt by February next year.

Along with asset sales, the company says talks are underway with an unnamed investor to strengthen the balance sheet, though it warns there's no guarantee a deal will be concluded.
