Some vehicle manufacturers shrug off recession

Some vehicle manufacturers are avoiding the slump in sales that has hit the new vehicle industry.

The recession has seen sales of passenger and commercial vehicles down by 31.3% this year.

However Motor Industry Association figures to the end of August show Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai and Kia have dramatically increased their market share.

Hyundai and Kia attribute this to continued advertising and good prices while Mercedes says its sales have recovered this year following a 24% slump in the luxury car market last year.

Toyota remains number one for new vehicles, with about 19% of the market.
