Wine exports reach target a year ahead of schedule

Wine exports have cracked $1 billion a year ahead of schedule.

New Zealand Winegrowers says $1.01 billion of wine was exported in the year to the end of July.

Chief executive Philip Gregan says demand is increasing from Asia and European markets as well as Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

H says the result should just squeeze wine into the top 10 New Zealand export products by value.

However, it is still only about a ninth of the value of dairy exports and less than a fifth of the value of meat exports.
