Some telecom regulations may be revoked

The Commerce Commission is considering winding back regulations regarding the sale of some services that Telecom sells to its rivals.

Telecommunications Commissioner Dr Ross Patterson says current regulations governing resale services have largely been made redundant since the spilt of Telecom's retail and wholesale arms last year.

Dr Patterson there's evidence of effective competition in the resale market, and the regulation itself is not actually being applied.

Telecom, which asked for the review earlier this year, has welcomed the move as a positive step, saying it's an indication of a maturing regulatory environment.
