The NZX50 index reached its highest level in a year at the end of September.
In the latest set of figures, the stock market was at 3161 at the end of last month.
It has risen 16% this year as it and other exchanges, recover from the financial crisis and a severe global economic downturn.
But trading remain muted, rising 1% to 162,500 in the September quarter compared to the same period a year ago, with the total value down 11% to $7 billion.
Market capitalisation stood at $53 billion.
