The New Zealand sharemarket was down on Wednesday. The Australian 200 index was also down.
At the market's close the NZX 50 index fell 34 points, or 1%, at 3218 on turnover of $58 million.
Fletcher Building was down 5 cents to $8.40, Telecom was down 2 cents to $2.55, and Contact Energy was down 8 cents to $6.27.
Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was down 2 cents to $2.97.
Sky City Entertainment Group was down 9 cents to $3.45, Air New Zealand was down 2 cents to $1.30.
PGG Wrightson fell 7 cents to 70 cents.
The Warehouse was down 1 cent to $4.47.
Pike River Coal gained 4 cents to $1.17 after announcing it is considering a rights issue to raise $20 million to fund operations.
The Australian 200 index was down 14 points, or point 3%, to 4831.
At 5.20pm, the NZ dollar was trading at 74.9 US cents, 81.2 Australian cents, 45.7 pence, 67.9 yen, and 0.5000 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 67.09.
