Mixed views shown by confidence survey

Consumer confidence is at its highest level in almost two years, but households remain slightly glum about their prospects right now.

The latest survey by ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence Survey index found headline confidence rose 6 points to 125.9 in October.

ANZ Bank chief economist Cameron Bagrie says that's been driven by expectations of better times next year and people still feel financially worse off now compared to last year.

He says there's a wide gap between expectations and reality.
