Retailers report festive optimism

6:07 am on 24 December 2009

The Retailers Association expects spending spending for the festive season to be up this year.

On the final day for Christmas shopping, the association says there's a sense of optimism among both retailers and consumers.

It expects Christmas trading, in dollar terms, to be about 5% above what it was last year.

While consumers are less likely to extend their credit line to the extent that may have been evident in previous years, the association says they are still spending.
