New Zealand market down on Christmas Eve

The benchmark NZX 50 index closed down 4 points, or 0.1%, to 3205 on Christmas Eve.

Fletcher Building was up 5 cents to $7.95, Telecom fell 5c to $2.45, Contact Energy was down 2c to $6.06.

Fisher and Paykel Healthcare was down 1c to $3.39.

Sky City Entertainment was up 1c to $3.35, while Sky Network Television fell 5c to $4.93.

The Warehouse fell 2c to $4.21.

Allied Farmers was up 0.8c to 12.5c.

Westpac rose 48c to $31.00 and ANZ was up 7c to $28.00.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index was up 42 points, or 0.9%, to 4781.

In currency markets, at 4.08pm the NZ dollar was at 70.60 US cents, 80.01 Australian cents, 44.16 pence, 64.60 yen, and 0.4920 euro.

The Trade Weighted Index was at 64.64.
