NZ, Australian sharemarkets both down

The NZX50 index closed down 34 points, or 1%, at 3190 on Friday. Across the Tasman, the ASX 200 fell 76 points, or 1.59%, to 4750.6.

Fletcher Building was down 18c to $7.97, Telecom down 3c to $2.41, Contact Energy down 16c to $6 even and Auckland Airport dropped a cent to close at $1.88.

Also down were Sky City Entertainment (2c to $3.33) and Sky Television (12c to $5).

Nuplex gained 15c to $3.20.

In the currency markets, the kiwi was trading at 71.30 US, 79. 01 Australian, 44.99 pence, 64.11 yen and 0.50 euro, while the TWI stood at 65.05.

Australia's benchmark S&P/ASX200 index dropped 76.6 points, or 1.59%, to 4750.6, while the broader All Ordinaries index dropped 77.7 points, or 1.6$, to 4771.9.
