Credit card billings up

Credit card billings have increased at their strongest rate in nine months.

Figures from the Reserve Bank show total billings rose a seasonally adjusted 1.5% in January, compared with a decline of 1.2% in December.

It is the largest monthly increase since April last year.

On an annual basis, billings were 2.6% higher than a year ago - the strongest rise since June 2008.
