Australasian food group Goodman Fielder has grown its profit by a quarter by cutting costs and adding new brands.

The company made a profit of $A90 million in the six months to December, up almost a quarter on the same period last year.

Goodman Fielder is listed on the New Zealand and Australian stock exchanges.

Its products in New Zealand include Edmonds, MeadowFresh milk and yoghurt, Chesdale cheese and bread brands Natures Fresh, Vogels, and Molenberg.

Despite difficult trading conditions in the New Zealand fresh bread market, managing director Peter Margin says Goodman Fielder has managed to increase its market share to about 49%.
