New Zealand sharemarket edges down

The benchmark NZX 50 index closed down 10 points (0.3%) to 3213 on turnover of $68 million on Tuesday.

Fletcher Building was unchanged at $8.10, Telecom was down 3 cents at $2.21, and Contact Energy was up 4 cents at $6.15.

Sky City Entertainment Group fell 7 cents to $3.25, and Sky Network Television fell 1 cent to $5.03.

Air New Zealand was unchanged at $1.33, while The Warehouse was up 1 cent to $3.95.

Among other retailers, Briscoe Group was unchanged at $1.35 after lifting its full-year profit by 81% to $21 million, as was Postie Plus at 40 cents after narrowing its loss to $1.1 million.

Hallenstein Glasson dipped 1 cent to $3.54 as did Allied Farmers, by 0.4 cents to 7.5 cents.

The ASX 200 index was up 16 points (0.3%) to 4824.

In currency markets, the NZ dollar was at 69.86 US cents, 76.87 Australian, 46.54 British pence, 62.94 yen and 0.5131 euro. The TWI was at 64.64.
