Finance Minister Bill English says the Government is assessing the possible use of private-public partnerships to build prisons and schools.
Mr English says it is still in the early stages of developing such partnerships, but expects to make a decision in about June on whether to seek expressions of interest from potential providers.
He says that if potential deals can be agreed to, the partnerships will organise their own financing and decide their own funding sources.
Mr English says the Government is some way off from issuing infrastructure bonds, because they need projects that produce enough revenue to support them, and most current projects do not do this.
