Auckland International Airport says its Cairns and Mackay Airports have good prospects for growth despite a period of sluggish passenger numbers.

Auckland International Airport says Cairns has a bright future as the tourism market improved and new services came on board.

It says Australian government initiatives to encourage foreign airlines to fly through regional international airports, as well as $45 million of committed government tourism support would also help lift passenger numbers.
