Further boom predicted for LNG

6:11 am on 7 April 2010

The Queensland Resources Council says a $A20 billion gas deal with Japan gives the liquefied natural gas industry credibility.

The BG Group has signed an agreement to supply Tokyo Gas with 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year from a planned facility off Gladstone in central Queensland.

QRC chief executive Michael Roche says it paves the way for more commercial deals with Japan.

Analysts also predict another resource boom for Australia.

ICAP chief economist Adam Carr says further deals are likely and Australia will continue to benefit as demand from China, not only for LPG, but for other resources, continues to increase.

In anticipation, he says resources companies are investing billions of dollars in exploration and production opportunities in Australia.
