The unemployment rate in Australia has remained steady at 5.3% after a rise of almost 20,000 jobs in March.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that 30,100 extra full-time jobs were created last month.

Part-time employment decreased by a seasonally adjusted 10,600.

The total number of hours worked in the survey period fell by 0.6%, despite the apparent shift from part-time to full-time employment.
