Gold miner discovers six new sites on West Coast

6:46 pm on 12 April 2010

Oceana Gold says it has uncovered six new "highly prospective" areas at its mine on the South Island's West Coast.

The listed company says gold discoveries were made during the exploration of three existing deposits at its Reefton mine and follow-up drilling has begun at two sites.

Oceana Gold chief executive Paul Bibby says the results are very encouraging and, given the discovery of more than 120,000 ounces of gold in December, he is excited about the mine's future.

Shares in Oceana Gold closed up 9 cents at $3.49 on Monday.
