Holden is to reduce production of cars in Australia at a plant in Adelaide from July.
There will be no vehicle production at Elizabeth plant for the first week of July. A further eight four-day production weeks will follow.
The ABC reports the move has support from the car workers union, in preference to a two-week shutdown of production in July.
In March, Holden recorded its highest number of Commodores sold in the past three years and a sales increase of 28% overall compared with March last year.
Holden introduced a single production shift at Elizabeth a year ago.
The company maintains it still plans to bring back a second shift in the longer term.
