The United States has recorded its third consecutive quarter of economic growth, but the unemployment rate did not improve.

The ABC reports an increase in consumer spending helped lift the economic growth rate to 3.2% for the first quarter - the third consecutive quarterly increase.

However, this upturn is yet to have an impact on the unemployment rate, which has been static at around 10% for the past eight months.
