7:10 am on 25 May 2010

Auckland International Airport Ltd says passenger numbers climbed almost 8% in April, as Jetstar, Pacific Blue and Air New Zealand all carried more people.

Domestic passenger numbers continued to grow strongly, rising almost 8% from the previous month to 512,000.

International passenger volumes were flat at 608,000, despite widespread disruption because of the volcanic ash cloud across Europe.

Arrivals from Australia fell 3% because of the timing of the school holidays, but the number of arrivals from Korea jumped almost a quarter, as airlines increased capacity from the South Korean market.

Total aircraft movements rose 1.5% to just over 13,000.

Shares in Auckland International Airport Ltd rose by 1 cent to $1.89 on Monday.
