Prudential bid for AIA over

A bid by Prudential to buy AIA, the Asian arm of AIG, is reportedly all but over.

In March, Prudential agreed to buy AIA for $US35.5 billion from AIG, but shareholders baulked at the proposal, saying it's too expensive.

Prudential tried to persuade AIG to reduce the price to $US30.38 billion, but the American insurer held firm, saying on Tuesday that it won't revise the terms.

The BBC reports Prudential previously called the deal a "one-off" opportunity to access the Asian market.
