Tait Radio wins Victoria CFA contract

12:31 pm on 6 July 2010

Tait Radio Communications has won a contract worth $39 million to replace 10,000 hand-held and vehicle-mounted radios for the Country Fire Authority in Victoria.

The new digital radios are specifically designed for police and firefighters, and filter out much of the background noise from helicopters, trucks, sirens, hoses and machinery.

They will replace the CFA's existing analogue radios, which have been in service since 1995 and are now at the end of their life.

The company will establish a new support facility in Melbourne while the radio roll-out is underway, creating 12 new jobs.

It will also maintain the radios when they are progressively introduced later this year.
