Market closes higher

The New Zealand share market closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark NZX50 index up eight points, or 0.3%, to 3004 on turnover of $55 million.

Fletcher Building closed up 1 cent to $7.70, Telecom finished up 2c to $1.95 and Contact Energy was down 5c to $5.71.

Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $2.97, Sky Network Television was up 2c to $4.78, The Warehouse was up 8c to $3.64

and New Zealand Oil & Gas was down 1c to $1.24.

Farming Systems Uruguay was unchanged at 54c after Singapore's Olam International launched a $110 million takeover offer on Monday.

PGG Wrightson was up 1c to 50c.

The dollar was buying 71.65 US, 81.20 Australian cents, 46.85 pence, 62.40 yen and 0.5560 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 67.33.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index was up three points, or 0.08%, to 4407.
