Market closes up 10 points

The New Zealand sharemarket closed up on Thursday, with the benchmark NZX50 index gaining 10 points to 3033.

Fletcher Building closed down 6 cents to $7.62, Telecom finished up 3c to $1.99, Contact Energy was up 7c to $5.73, Sky City Entertainment was up 3c to $3.04 and Sky Network Television was up 1c to $4.80.

The Warehouse finished down 4c to $3.51, Air New Zealand was down 1c to $1.12, Rakon was down 1c to $1.05 and Infratil was unchanged at $1.61. NZ Refinery finished down 5c to $3.02.

New Zealand Oil & Gas was down 1c to $1.23 after announcing it made about $30 million from its two off-shore Taranaki fields in the three months to June. Farming Systems Uruguay was up 1c to 56c.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index was down 4 points to 4525.

The dollar was buying 72.45 US cents, 80.84 Australian cents, 46.40 pence, 63.18 yen and 0.5568 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was 67.58.
