NZ market higher at close

The New Zealand sharemarket gained 9 points to close at 3050 on turnover of $55 million on Tuesday.

Fletcher Building was up 2 cents to $7.60 a share, Telecom also gained 2c to $2.02, while Contact Energy was unchanged at $5.66.

Sky City Entertainment was down 2c to $3.03 and Sky Network Television rose 1c to $4.90.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was down 1c to $3.03, while Fisher & Paykel Appliances also fell 1c to 54c.

Retailer The Warehouse gained 2c to $3.60.

Allied Farmers was down 25% to 4c after the company asked investors to stump up $19.3 million to repay its bank and bolster its financial position.

At 5.20pm, the New Zealand dollar was buying 73.30 US cents, 80.42 Australian, 46.15 pence, 63.35 yen and 0.5570 euro. The Trade Weighted Index stood at 67.78.
