Rod McGeogh to step down as Telecom director

1:03 pm on 10 August 2010

Telecom director Rod McGeoch has kept the promise he made at the phone company's annual meeting two years ago to step down at the end of his term.

After nine years on the board, Mr McGeoch will retire following Telecom's annual meeting in Christchurch at the end of September.

The Australian businessman and lawyer provided Telecom with his experience as the company tried to build its presence across the Tasman with AAPT, which it's now in the process of selling.

Telecom appointed Sue Sheldon as an additional director earlier this year, and Mr McGeoch's resignation will bring the number of directors on the board back to seven.

The company hinted the Government's $1.5 billion ultra-fast broadband project may see further changes on its board.

Some analysts have called for more telecommunications experts with experience in New Zealand and overseas.
