NZ sharemarket rises

The New Zealand sharemarket rose 12 points to close at 3030 on Thursday on turnover of $42 million.

Fletcher Building gained 9 cents to $7.43 per share after announcing a profit of $272 million in the last financial year on Wednesday.

Telecom was up 2c to $2.10, Contact Energy rose 4c to $5.82.

Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $2.88 and Sky Network Television was also unchanged at $4.92.

Air New Zealand was up 1c to $1.18, while retailer The Warehouse fell 1c to $3.47.

Mainfreight was up 19c to $6.70 after more than doubling its profit in the first quarter of the year.

ING Medical Properties Trust was unchanged at $1.25 after it lifted its underlying profit by boosting occupancy and increasing rents.

Freightways rose 5c to $2.92, while NZ Farming Systems Uruguay was up 1c at 64c.

Pyne Gould Corporation was unchanged at 43c.

At 5.20pm on Thursday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 71.13 US, 79.38 Australian, 45.75 pence, 61.04 yen and 0.5563 euro. The Trade Weighted Index stood at 66.54.
