Building activity picked up in the three months to June,
Statistics New Zealand says the total volume of residential building work put in place rose nearly 11%, while non-residential work rose 5%.
Building activity has increased in the past three quarters but remains more than 9% below the most recent peak, in September 2007.
Adjusted for seasonal variations and inflation, the value of residential building work rose 7% to $10.8 billion.
The value of non-residential building work rose more than 4% to $5.2 billion.
