The global accounting firm Deloitte has announced plans to hire a quarter of a million people over the next five years, 40,000 of them within the next year.

The accounting firm has recorded record revenues this year, with sales up 1.8% to $US26 billion ($NZ36 billion).

Revenue fell 3% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa but rose 4% in the US and 9% in the Asia-Pacific region.

Deloitte's global chief executive, Jim Quigley, says Asia-Pacific has been the fastest growing region for the past five years, and he expects it to continue to drive growth.
