The ANZ bank in Australia has become the first of several banks to be hit by a class action over fees.

A suit has been filed in the Federal Court in Victoria on behalf of 27,000 of the bank's customers.

It is part of a wider action against 12 banks from 210,000 bank customers, the ABC reports.

They say they have wrongly been charged $A5 billion in honour and exception fees on their accounts in the past six years.
