Auckland International Airport Ltd says international passenger numbers rose 4% in August compared with the same month last year, due to greater patronage from Asia and the United States.

That offset fewer visitors from Australia and Europe.

Domestic passenger numbers rose nearly 3% during the month.

On an annual basis, international traveller numbers rose 5% to 1.3 million, and domestic visitors increased 4% to 1 million.
