Wall Street down

Stocks on Wall Street have fallen as investors take a pause from a month-long rally.

Half an hour before the close on Wednesday, the Dow Jones index was down 30 points, to 10,827.

The Nasdaq Composite is down 8 points to 2371.

European markets were also flat.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 Index closed down 24 points, to 4644.

The NZX 50 lost 3 points, to close at 3226 on turnover of $84 million.

At 8.05am on Thursday, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 73.80 US cents, 76.15 Australian cents, 46.75 pence, 61.72 yen and 0.5415 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 66.35.

Brent crude oil was trading at $US79.06 per barrel and gold was trading at $US1309.50 per ounce.
